On August 1st, 2023, Consumers Energy will have planned venting activity with odorized natural gas at the St. Clair Compressor Station on Marine City Highway.

The venting will take place from approximately 7:30am – 12:00pm. During this venting period there will be significant sounds and smells, like rotten eggs, the residents of Casco and Ira Township as well as the surrounding areas may experience, which is a normal part of this venting.  

The Consumers Energy public safety officer will notify the local fire and police department. As always, in case of a gas emergency call Consumers Energy at 1-800-477-5050.

There will be natural gas flaring and natural gas well maintenance in our Consumers Energy natural gas storage fields in Casco Township.

This work will begin in August, 2023 thru late October, 2023 and the flaring work typically is done on weekdays between 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.

During this routine maintenance work, some pressurized natural gas will rise from the open wells. To ensure the safety of nearby neighbors, our workers and the environment, this excess natural gas will be burned off in a controlled manner. This is called flaring, which you may see or hear. Flaring is a safe, common industry practice and is continuously monitored.
